  • Strong computer skills – proficient in Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • A passion for social justice and women’s rights
  • Some knowledge of or demonstrated interest in science is a plus

Application Deadline

We are not currently accepting applications for the AWIS Intern Program. Please check back here for updates.

Please note, this is a full-time work commitment best suited for students taking a semester off or recently graduated students looking for work experience.

Application Instructions

To apply, please e-mail your resume, a cover letter, and a brief writing sample of 500 words or less.  In the cover letter, be sure to state the time of year for which you are applying and the particular interest you have in applying to our organization.

Select candidates will be invited for a phone interview and may be asked to submit a letter of recommendation.

Please, no phone calls.  If you have questions about the program or the application process, send an email. Due to the high volume of applications, we will not respond to inquiries about the status of an application.

Other Considerations

Applications should be aware of the high cost of living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  AWIS Interns are expected to coordinate all travel and living arrangements on their own.

Non-U.S. citizens may apply for the internship but are ineligible for the stipend.
