Chapter Reports

All AWIS Chapters are required to file an annual report with the National office of the Association for Women in Science(AWIS).  This is in compliance with Internal Revenue Services (IRS) regulations and AWIS Bylaws. 

A corporate tax form for non-profits (Form 990) is filed each year by National AWIS and covers all chapters.  Chapters must submit their reporting based on a fiscal year that begins July 1 and ends June 30 annually. 

Forms to help facilitate your reporting:

  1) Financial Report (22K ,DOC)
  2) Activities Report (28K ,DOC)
 
The financial statement:  This report is to be used for each bank account in the chapter’s name.  Most chapters with income/expenses under $5,000 can easily fill out this form.  An executive officer of the chapter other than the Treasurer (or the person who routinely handles deposits and writes checks) should verify figures and sign the statement. 

Chapters with income/expenses over $5,000 are advised to have an outside bookkeeper or accountant (does not have to be a CPA) prepare the form and submit a compilation.  To avoid the expense of paying someone, many non-profits find a colleague or individual that would do this report on a pro bono basis. 
 
The activities report:  This report can be brief.  A simple listing of meeting dates and title of activities with dates is all that is necessary.  However, if your chapter has organized programs or events for which you’d like to write a longer report, please feel free to do 
so.   
 
Please submit these forms to National AWIS office by October 1, 2007.
