Individual Membership Form

As a network:

  • AWIS nominates women in technological and scientific fields for awards such as Scientist of the Year, AAAS Fellows, NAS Fellows, Washington Academy of Science Fellows, and the New York Academy of Science Fellows.
  • Local AWIS chapters offer networking opportunities, friendships, leadership seminars, workshops, and career advice.
  • AWIS sponsors interns in the national office, developing a cadre of young women who have experience in science and policy issues related to women.
  • AWIS assists women in STEM disciplines who have filed grievance cases against their employers, when appropriate.
  • AWIS members pay reduced fees at AWIS conferences.

As a resource:

  • AWIS publishes a quarterly print magazine and a bimonthly web-based Washington Wire, which focus on policy issues affecting women and on women's progress in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics.
  • AWIS offers professional development ideas and provides a list of job openings
  • AWIS Educational Foundation has awarded more than 100 predoctoral fellowships across all fields of science, engineering, and mathematics.

As a voice:

  • AWIS is a member of the Coalition for Women's Appointments, the National Coalition for Women and Girls in Education, and the National Council of Women's Organizations.
  • AWIS members serve as mentors in the programs run by MentorNet.
  • AWIS chapters sponsor local programs for girls to encourage their participation in scientific careers.
  • The AWIS Executive Director and Executive Board members serve as keynote speakers, panelists, and workshop leaders in conferences across the United States and around the world.
