Who May Apply?
In general, female students enrolled in a behavioral, life, physical, or social science or engineering program leading to a baccalaureate degree may apply. A detailed list will be provided in the application instructions to confirm eligibility of your field. Applicants must be in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year (have at least one year remaining in their degree program). Non-U.S. citizens must be enrolled at a university in the United States. Previous applicants to this program may not reapply. Eligibility criteria are subject to change.
Evaluation Criteria
Reviewers consider academic achievement as well as commitment and accomplishments in non-academic pursuits or success in overcoming significant barriers. The Lorentzen award also seeks an exceptionally well-rounded student who excels in her studies as well as outdoor activities, service, sports, music, or other non-academic pursuits. The programs are quite competitive, with about 200 undergraduate applicants last year.
How may the award be used?
The award may be used for any aspect of education, including tuition, books, housing, research, travel and meeting registration, or publication costs, for example.
