Our community has been deeply aware and moved by recent events and rhetoric surrounding issues of gender inequality in STEM environments, politics, and our greater society. AWIS members from across the country are now seeking opportunities to take action, come together, and demonstrate our commitment to ensuring women can achieve their full potential.
On Saturday, January 21, I invite you to participate in the “Women’s March on Washington,” a march from the U.S. Capitol Building to the White House as a peaceful demonstration of our shared commitment to gender equity. The event takes place the day after the presidential inauguration as a community-building opportunity and collective reaffirmation of our efforts during leadership transition.
Thousands of women are expected to participate in the march, and AWIS members are invited to meet at AWIS National Headquarters for coffee, pastries, and community building before the event. Please visit our event page for day-of logistics and registration. AWIS members and all others who support women in STEM are welcome to march with AWIS National, and we encourage you to share the registration page with your chapter members, colleagues, peers, friends, and loved ones.
Those physically, geographically, or otherwise unable to attend the Women’s March on Washington are encouraged to also take action. Please connect with our AWIS community at the chapter level, recruit new AWIS members and engage current ones, and contact your Congressional representative via social media, phone, email or letter to express your support for women in STEM.
We hope to see you on January 21!
