We look forward to welcoming you along with guest speakers, and Association for Women in Science’s own, Dr. Heather Metcalf, Director of Research and Analysis, and Dorian Russell, Policy Intern on Wednesday, November 2nd.

Heather will speak from her wealth of research experience in educational and workplace culture, recruitment and retention and organizational and cultural change. With an interdisciplinary background and policy experience Dr. Metcalf brings invaluable insight on how to create tangible progress. Dorian works in advocacy surrounding participation of women of color, women who are (dis)abled, and women in the LGBTQ+ community in STEM arenas. She engages with Congress, Federal Agencies and the public using original AWIS research created working with Dr. Metcalf.

Together, Heather and Dorian will share with you their innovative strategies to promote and integrate your story with AWIS’ research to drive systemic change and foster a more inclusive culture.

AWIS LIVE: why we still need an
association for women in science

Join long-time AWIS member Dr. Isabel Escobar and AWIS Director of Community and Stakeholder Engagement Sheri Potter as they share proactive strategies to connect with the AWIS mission, impact change as an AWIS member, and access benefits that will strengthen you as a professional.

Dr. Isabel Escobar serves on the AWIS National Chapters Committee and has experience in a myriad of leadership roles at regional and local levels. As a leading scientist in developing polymeric membrane materials for water treatment and reuse operations and professor of chemical and materials engineering at the University of Kentucky, she’s been the PI of numerous research projects. Dr. Escobar will share with you why she identifies herself as “noise in the data” within science participation and how our unique experiences in partnership with AWIS can create positive, lasting change.

Sheri Potter has been building communities of change for social impact in the scientific community and among women and girls for over 10 years. At AWIS, she works with membership including leadership, chapters, affiliates and volunteers to align research and partnerships with individuals to achieve talent and leadership development and systemic change.
