Women's March on Washington
Share |

The AWIS group will convene at AWIS National Headquarters at 1667 “K” Street NW Suite 800, Washington, D.C. starting at 8:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 21 for hot beverages and pastries. The group will leave “K” Street promptly at 9 a.m. and walk together to Independence Avenue and 3rd Street, SW the Women’s March on Washington starting place (near the U.S. Capitol Building).

Expect delays and increased congestion from visitors for the inauguration and march. If you do not arrive at AWIS Headquarters prior to 9 a.m., join the march at Independence Avenue and 3rd Street. Expect high auto and pedestrian traffic. If you have not traveled to Washington, D.C. before, note that city blocks are much larger and take longer to traverse than many other city blocks. Double your normal commute time expectations.

The Women’s March on Washington event is expected to begin at 10 a.m. at Independence Avenue and 3rd Street. Please note that thousands of people have planned to attend this event and our group may become separated – enjoy the community building opportunity with women and allies from dozens of other organizations!

AWIS is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. AWIS is organized and operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes, specifically: to promote equal opportunity for women to enter the scientific professions and achieve their career goals; to raise the status of women in science, and women generally; to initiate, encourage and engage in research related to women in the scientific fields and other works of educational and scientific nature; and to exchange information with other groups supportive of our goals, and coordinate activities directed to their fulfillment.

In planning your attire and use of signs for the Women’s March on Washington, the use of the AWIS name and acronym may only be used in communicating our mission and vision. Do not use the AWIS name or acronym with political messages or other communications that are not directly tied to the official views of AWIS.

At the coffee event prior to the march, AWIS National staff will be providing “I Support Women in STEM” buttons. Related messaging is encouraged!
