Position Title: Business Development Manager
Reporting to: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Flexible Remote Position

Position Summary

The Business Development Manager is responsible for a range of activities to grow and support the association through revenue generation. The primary areas of sale will include organizational memberships to institutions, and corporations, advertising sales through association channels. The Business Development Manager will also be responsible for lead generation, relationship management, partial fulfillment obligations, and client retention.

Requirements

  • A career path of progressive sales and business development experience – a plus if with a national association or in a nonprofit environment
  • Creativity to develop and the ability to implement sales strategy
  • Proven track record of retaining clients and cultivating new ones, and of increasing client investment over time
  • Ability to research clients and identify client requirements
  • Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) database, experience with MemberClicks is a plus, and other software including MS Office as well as project management tools
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience

  • Comfortable with outreach and engagement of customers, and closing sales
  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and establish common areas for success
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills with the ability to convey information in an easy to understand, compelling, and engaging manner
  • Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to multitask, shift priorities, and work in a deadline-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills with the ability to work as part of a team and collaborate on the outreach, data management, invoicing and payment, and fulfillment of partnership benefits
  • Exercise good judgment and sound decision making in problem solving
  • The candidate must be a self-starter who can thrive independently, adapt quickly, and demonstrate flexibility
  • Understanding of the culture of scientific professionals and knowledge of STEM industries a significant asset

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, researches and communicates with customer prospects for organizational partnerships, both higher ed and corporate
  • Develop, manage and sell AWIS’ products and services, including organizational partnerships, events, and advertising
  • Refine prospect criteria as new customer audiences are identified
  • Research organizations and companies to identify prospects and craft the sales proposal Establish and manage prospect and client data within the association database (MemberClicks)
  • Create sales life cycle and manage organizations through the process from prospect to close to renewal
  • Build relationships with all association stakeholders

Salary Range and Highlights of Benefits

  • Salary $85,000 annually plus generous commission schedule
