“Serving on AWIS leadership has been a wonderful experience, and AWIS has helped me grow my professional network.”
What do you think is the most important attribute that enables a woman to successfully lead a community that supports
women in STEM?
I think the ability to work in a team and to respect each member of the team is key. As long as women support each other, they will thrive. Therefore, it is important to acknowledge that the success of your team is your success.
What do you aspire to accomplish in your career and why?
Being in the healthcare field is not only exciting but gives me a sense of responsibility and purpose. At the end of the day, I want to be able to come home with a sense of fulfillment, knowing that I have made a small difference, one little step at a time.
How has AWIS helped you professionally and/or personally?
It’s been a privilege to have been able to serve on the board of AWIS Gulf Coast Houston for three years. I have worked with several amazing women, have had a chance to spread the word about AWIS, and have brought several new members to the AWIS community. Serving on AWIS leadership has been a wonderful experience, and AWIS has helped me grow my professional network. From interviewing high profile women scientists for our newsletter to educating young high school kids about STEM career options, from volunteering opportunities to fundraising and managing finances, I have learned a lot!
