About AWIS

The Association for Women in Science (AWIS) is one of the largest multi-discipline organizations for women in science dedicated to achieving equity and full participation of women in all disciplines and across all employment sectors. With a 50-year history of championing women in science and over 30 grassroots chapters, AWIS offers opportunities for professional development, recognition, and networking with members, allies and supporters worldwide. Scope of Work

The association is seeking an advocacy manager with expertise refreshing a public policy platform, coordinating grassroots advocacy initiatives including a “Capitol Hill Day,” building a community around advocacy efforts and communicating advocacy goals and strategies.

Public Policy

  • Work with staff to structure a volunteer committee to refresh and propose a revitalized public policy platform.
  • Research and inform the committee on issues that are timely and relevant to the AWIS mission.
  • Track legislation and initiatives relevant to AWIS.

Community Building

  • Create and execute activities that promote community for our members around advocacy.
  • Coordinate a “Capitol Hill Day” in Washington, DC for members.
  • Develop a plan to work with like-minded organizations and support grassroots actions.
  • Create communications plans and tool kit for chapters to execute “State Capitol Hill Day” in their local regions.

Communications

  • Update advocacy tool kit.
  • Write website, social media, and newsletter updates on advocacy issues.
  • Write policy papers in support of the organizational mission and goals.
  • Write press statements as appropriate on advocacy issues or initiatives

Timeline

Our goal is to select a candidate or vendor by February 4, 2022, to begin work by February 14, 2022.

  • Your rates or billing structure.
  • Samples of similar previous work or projects.
  • A list of clients with whom you’ve worked.

Selection Process & Information Submission

The staff will review the responses, identify finalists, conduct interviews, make an offer, and notify applicants.
