The Association for Women in Science Recognizes Newest Fellow, Gail E. Gasparich, PhD

WASHINGTON DC, July 22, 2016 – Gail E. Gasparich, PhD, has been named a Fellow of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS). Dr. Gasparich, dean of Salem State University’s College of Arts and Sciences, was honored for her leadership, support of and commitment to the mission of AWIS as exemplified by her inspiring service as secretary of the National Governing Board of AWIS and chair of the AWIS Grants Committee.
Gasparich, was inducted at the annual AWIS Governing Board Meeting in Washington DC. Since the AWIS Fellows Program was created in 1996, 146 women and men have been inducted and honored.
“Since joining AWIS in 2003, Gail has been a dedicated and active supporter of the organization,” noted AWIS Immediate Past President Dr. Ann Lee-Karlon. “We are honoring her for her considerable efforts in furthering the AWIS mission and her selfless service as a board member and volunteer extraordinaire.”
Before her position at Salem State University, Gasparich served as associate dean of the Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics and acting assistant provost and professor in the biological sciences. She earned a BS in biology from The College of William and Mary and a PhD in microbiology from Penn State University.
Criteria for selection as an AWIS Fellow is a demonstrated exemplary commitment to the achievement of equity for women in STEM. The first AWIS Fellows were named in 1996, as part of AWIS’ 25th anniversary celebration.
