The Association for Women in Science (AWIS), founded in 1971, is the leading organization that advocates on behalf of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to achieve equity and full participation of women in all disciplines and across all employment sectors. We achieve this impact through membership, an extensive network of 100,000 stakeholders, primary research, advocacy, career partnerships. AWIS is a small staff association with 10 full-time employees and an approximately $2 million annual budget. We are a primarily virtual organization, with a headquarters office based in Washington, D.C.
